After suffering back-to-back home defeats by 3+ goals for the first time in 61 years and losing eight of their opening 15 matches for the first time in 60 years, Erik ten Hag needs a win against Fulham if he is going to have any chance of turning things around at Old Trafford. Luckily for the Dutchman, the Red Devils face one of their favourite opponents in the Premier League, having won each of their last six Premier League matches at Craven Cottage and not tasting defeat to the West London side in the league since 2009 (W12, D3).

3-0 home defeats to rivals Man City and Newcastle, who got revenge for their Carabao Cup final defeat last season, put an end to United’s mini-revival, having won each of their previous three matches before that against Brentford, Sheffield United and FC Copenhagen and manager Erik ten Hag is taking full responsibility for his side’s less than impressive start to the campaign.

“I take responsibility for it. It is my team and they are not performing,” he said after the League Cup defeat to Newcastle.

“It is below the standards everyone expects from Manchester United, it is not good enough by far and we have to put it right. “I understand when the results are not there it is logical they are questioning that (his position). “But I am confident I can do it. At this moment we are in a bad place and I take responsibility for it. “I am a fighter. I see it as a challenge.”

However, former striker Andy Cole is not impressed with the Dutchman.

“People now come to Old Trafford thinking they can beat Man Utd,” he told Sky Sports.

“There are going to be questions about the manager, Man Utd were really poor. The players need to take a good look at themselves. “When you see performances like this, you have to ask ‘what is going on here?’ “If he doesn’t get results in the next couple of games, fans’ attitudes towards Ten Hag can change very quickly.”

With Gary Neville adding: “Man Utd players were complaining to the ref, whinging, and while they were whinging Newcastle were attacking. It is schoolboy stuff, under-9s. Man Utd fans were probably expecting what they are seeing. Every team that came here this season should have got something. I don’t know where he starts picking a side next, as none of them can really say they deserve to play. We are seeing a repeat of United losing their discipline, not passion – it is petulance. It is like a bunch of kids on the schoolyard.”

Fulham, meanwhile, are in the bottom half of the table, with 12 points from their opening 10 games. It was a slightly rocky start for the Cottagers as they won just one of their opening four matches, but that run did include a draw with Arsenal. They have also steadied the ship since, with two wins and two draws from their past six. There have been victories over Luton and Sheffield United, as well as draws against Crystal Palace and Brighton and a place in the League Cup quarter-finals after a routine 3-1 victory over Championship side Ipswich.

Both these sides have been pretty boring to watch in the first half of their matches this season, with all the action coming after the break. Fulham have scored just two goals before half-time compared to seven after, while Man Utd have netted four first-half goals and seven in the second half.

Fulham vs Man Utd Bet-Builder tip

BTTS > Man Utd to win > Over 6.5 Man Utd corners

Despite recent troubles, Manchester United have a phenomenal record against Fulham in the Premier League, winning each of their last six league matches at Craven Cottage and going unbeaten against the Cottagers in each of the previous 15 matches between the two sides (W12, D3).  The Red Devils have kept just two clean sheets in their 10 Premier League games this season and have conceded in each of their previous six matches across all competitions. However, they are near the top for corners, averaging 6.89 per game this season — only Arsenal (8.44) average more in the Premier League.

Man Utd still have a host of injury problems right now things are on the up.
