Time for Man City to take control
For some time it has felt as though Man City have been chasing in the Premier League title race, always having to play after Arsenal and match their result — all while having a game in hand. But now it’s their time to lay down the gauntlet. The Citizens open the penultimate round of Premier League fixtures this weekend with their trip to Fulham, knowing Arsenal must face Manchester United on Sunday.
Victory over the Cottagers would see them go two points clear of Arsenal, while level on games played, piling the pressure on. And it looks like run-in Man City have turned up. Pep Guardiola’s side are now 20 games unbeaten in the Premier League since their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in December, winning 16 of those matches. They’ve only dropped points in draws against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. But since back-to-back draws against their title rivals, Man City have strung together a run of six wins to retake control of the title race.
It’s not the best time, then, for Fulham to be hosting Man City. However, fortunately for the Cottagers, they don’t really have anything on the line. Fulham cannot be relegated nor can they challenge for a European spot, so their final two games will just be about finishing as high as possible — or at least just ending the campaign on a high. But they’re not in great form.
Fulham go into this game winless in their past three, with only one victory across their last seven in the Premier League — a 2-0 win over West Ham in mid-April. Since then, Fulham were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool before drawing against Crystal Palace and Brentford. The Cottagers are also winless in their past three at Craven Cottage, a far cry from their previous run which saw them win seven out of 10 at home including wins over Arsenal and Tottenham.
Fulham vs Man City match tip
Fulham to score first @ 3/1 by BetGoodwin
Man City have kept a clean sheet in each of their past two Premier League away games, but they have struggled on the road in London this season. Playing five away games in the capital so far in the Premier League, Man City have conceded on each occasion, letting in nine goals in total (though four were in one game against Chelsea). But that’s not all. Man City have actually conceded the opening goal in four of their five away league games in London this season, only scoring first themselves at Stamford Bridge.
Fulham vs Man City odds
It’s no surprise to see Man City heavy favourites for this game. In a random mid-season meeting that would be the case, but given the form of these two sides and what’s on the line, it’s hard to see anything but an away victory.
