The stats behind our France vs Germany predictions:

  • Germany have lost six of their last nine games (W2 D1).
  • France opened the scoring in four of their last five international friendly games at home.

Germany will be hoping to be back in “Kroos control”

For the first time since Euro 2020, Toni Kroos returns to the Germany squad looking to make up for lost time after he came out of international retirement after talks with Julian Nagelsmann.

With a home Euro 2024 tournament and Germany struggling for form in their build-up to the tournament, his return has come at the perfect time. Die Mannschaft have won just two of their last 10 international friendlies (D2 L6), with three consecutive defeats to Poland, Colombia and Japan as well as recent back-to-back losses to Turkey and Austria sandwiched between wins over France and USA and a draw against Mexico.

They face a France side that ended their qualifying campaign unbeaten, taking seven wins from eight games, with their only draw coming against Greece once they had already secured top spot. Since the World Cup final, Les Bleus’ have been near unstoppable, including a 14-0 win over Gibraltar and only suffered one defeat — but that did come at the hands of this weekend’s opponents Germany back in September.

However, for the first time since June 2017 when he was an unused sub vs England, they will be without the versatile Antoine Griezmann after the Atleti man withdrew from the squad with an ankle injury. It ends his record-breaking run of 84 consecutive appearances for the national side, with Didier Deschamps saying “Antoine has a problem with his ankle, which reacted even though he played 45 minutes last night.

“With Antoine’s qualities, we’re not going to find a player who has his characteristics. A replacement position for position is very, very, very difficult to find. We will arrange things differently. “He’s not irreplaceable but essential”

France vs Germany match tip

Olivier Giroud to score anytime @ 29/20 with Midnite

Olivier Giroud will be hoping to extend the gap at the top of France’s all-time top goalscoring charts, especially with Kylian Mbappe now getting closer. The Milan forward has scored in three of France’s last four international friendly matches at home (four goals) and needs one more goal to overtake Gabriel Batistuta and Samuel Eto’o in the international goalscoring charts.

France’s leading international goalscorers:

  1. Olivier Giroud: 56
  2. Thierry Henry: 51
  3. Kylian Mbappe: 46
  4. Antoine Griezmann: 44
  5. Michel Platini: 41

France are favourites for this game and it’s easy to see why when you see Germany’s recent form on the international stage. However, they are the only side to beat Les Bleus since the 2022 World Cup with a 2-1 victory back in September.

France vs Germany team news

For the first time in seven years, Antoine Griezmann will not be included in a French squad after he withdrew with an ankle injury,  ending his world-record 84 consecutive international appearances. Goalkeeper Mike Maignan is Didier Deschamps’ only other doubt.

Germany also have their own problems in goal after Manuel Neuer pulled out of the squad with an adductor injury, but in better news, Toni Kroos returns to the international stage having come out of retirement.
