Everton’s battle against the drop continues

As the 2023/24 Premier League season continues, the question of who will be relegated to the Championship remains a mystery. As things stand, Everton have moved out of the bottom three, but they are still in a lot of peril. The Toffees are only above Luton on goal difference, and will be hoping for neighbours Liverpool to have done them a favour by the time this game comes around — with the Hatters having a match in hand.

Everton jumped out of the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, a positive enough result, though it did continue their winless run. After news of their 10-point deduction, Everton won four games in a row, including wins over Newcastle and Chelsea. However, since a 2-0 win over Burnley, the Toffees have now gone winless in eight. That run has been split between four draws and four defeats, though two of the losses came home and away against Manchester City.

West Ham are also on a winless run in the Premier League and have fallen well away from the race for European football. It wasn’t too long ago that the Hammers were in a very favourable position to secure at least Europa League football, even knocking on the door of the top four. Fans will have been dreaming following back-to-back wins over Man Utd and Arsenal.

However, since the 2-0 win over Arsenal just after Christmas, West Ham have been in free fall. The Hammers drew three consecutive games, against Brighton, Sheffield United and Bournemouth. They then lost three on the trot, with both Man Utd and Arsenal getting their own back — the latter in a 6-0 thrashing at the London Stadium. The third defeat was just as damning, losing 2-0 to relegation-battling Nottingham Forest. Things aren’t well in east London right now.

Everton vs West Ham match tip

Jarrod Bowen to score anytime @ 13/5 by BetUK

Jarrod Bowen may be out of goalscoring form, but what better place to get back on track than at Goodison Park. The Englishman has now failed to score in his past seven Premier League games, a run that has coincided with West Ham’s poor form. But Bowen loves playing away from home. Seven of his 11 Premier League goals have come away from home this season, including seven of his first eight in the campaign.

*Odds correct as of 22:30 on February 19. 18+ only. BeGambleAware.

Despite West Ham’s position in the table, Everton are the odds-on favourites for this game. Although the Toffees are winless in their last four league games at home, three of those were draws, with the only defeat coming against Man City. At the same time, West Ham are winless in three on the road, with defeats to Man Utd and Nottingham Forest, alongside a draw with Sheffield United.
