England vs Slovenia Euro 2024 prediction: Three Lions to finish group stage in style?
England vs Slovenia latest prediction
England were expected to head into this match with six points on the board and qualification to the knockout rounds already in the bag. However, Denmark had other ideas, as they played out a 1-1 draw against the Three Lions on Matchday Two, which all but secured their passage into the Round of 16, and that was confirmed a day before kick-off when Spain beat Albania 1-0 ensuring they would, at least, be one of the four best third-placed teams. But the performance by the co-tournament favourites left a lot to be desired and led many to question Gareth Southgate and whether he can turn England’s fortunes around quickly. He could still use this fixture to rotate and give some squad players valuable minutes while resting some of his key figures.
Slovenia are returning to the major tournament scene for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where their only defeat was a 1-0 loss to England. They seek their first qualification for the knockout rounds of a major tournament. Matjaž Kek’s men are unbeaten following their opening two matches, a pair of 1-1 draws — first against Denmark and then Serbia last time out — but they came under different circumstances: against the Danes, they salvaged a point, while they dropped two against the latter.

England latest team news
According to reports, Trent Alexander-Arnold will not return to midfield for this one, leaving Southgate with an interesting dilemma. He could bring in unproven but highly promising youngsters, such as Adam Wharton or Kobbie Mainoo, to partner with Declan Rice, though Conor Gallagher seems more realistic. England’s front three could also be changed, but chances are it’ll remain the same with Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden supporting Harry Kane, though options are plentiful from the bench: Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer being two notable examples, with the former an alternative to Foden on the left flank thus allowing Manchester City’s dynamic forward an opportunity to play behind Kane with Bellingham dropping deep.
Slovenia latest team news
Few teams at Euro 2024 will place so much pressure on just a couple of players. Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers in the tournament. He’ll need to be at his best as Slovenia come up against a talented attacking side, even if they’ve been misfiring. That’s not to say they’re without their threats, however, with Benjamin Šeško coming off an 18-goal season for RB Leipzig and his first goal of the tournament. Counterattacking and making the most of set pieces will be the order of the day.
England vs Slovenia head-to-head
England have enjoyed an excellent record against Slovenia, winning five and drawing one of the six previous meetings, the first of which came in September 2009.
