    The last chance to impress

England’s 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday offered Gareth Southgate plenty of food for thought. The likes of Cole Palmer and Eberechi Eze put in excellent performances, while Adam Wharton impressed from off the bench. More established names also offered strong showings, with Trent Alexander-Arnold conducting from midfield.

There’s no doubt the Three Lions boss will already have most, if not all, of his strongest starting line-up in mind. But every contender at a major tournament needs depth. Attacking options to pull you out of a hole, defenders to see a game out, or quality stand-ins for if a talisman picks up an injury.

England will need to get past higher-quality opposition than Iceland to win Euro 2024, but Friday’s clash should carry all the tension of a major tournament encounter for those still with a point to prove.

    England to win 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2 @ 3/1 with BoyleSports

England fans will never forget the 2-1 defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016, but the Three Lions have been free-scoring in the two meetings on home soil. The first was a 6-1 win at the City of Manchester Stadium in 2004 before England beat Iceland 4-0 at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League in 2020.

England are understandably heavy odds-on favourites for this one. The Three Lions ended a three-game winless run against Bosnia and Herzegovina last time out, while Iceland lost 2-1 to Ukraine in their last outing and have lost their last 10 games against top-1o ranked nations.

    England vs Iceland team news

Gareth Southgate has named his final 26-man squad for Euro 2024, with James Maddison, Harry Maguire and Jack Grealish among those missing out. It means he will likely have those 26 players — minus Jude Bellingham who is being rested — available for this friendly. However, Jarell Quansah will remain with the squad despite not making the final 26.

Luke Shaw will also remain a doubt due to injury, but he was fit enough to make the final squad.

How to watch England vs Iceland Live

England host Iceland at Wembley on Friday, 7th June, at 7:45pm. The game will be broadcast live in the UK on Channel 4.

    England vs Iceland head-to-head

    • 05 September 2020 – Iceland 0-1 England – UEFA Nations League
    • 27 June 2016 – England 1-2 Iceland – European Championships
    • 5 June 2004 – England 6-1 Iceland – Friendly
    • 2 June 1982 – Iceland 1-1 England – Friendly

England have only lost one of their previous five meetings against Iceland, although that was infamously in the Euro 2016 round of 16; arguably the lowest point in England national team history.
