England vs Slovenia Euro 2024 Prediction: Three Lions to Finish Group Stage in Style?

England vs Slovenia Latest Prediction

Despite this being their easiest fixture on paper, England will be very much hoping to head into this match with six points on the board and qualification to the knockout rounds already in the bag. In that scenario, Gareth Southgate would surely use it as an opportunity to rotate and give some squad players valuable minutes, while also resting some of his key figures.

Slovenia are returning to the major tournament scene for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where their only defeat was actually a 1-0 loss to England, despite going out in the group stage. This will also represent just their second-ever appearance at the European Championships and the first since 2000. Slovenia are looking to make the knockout rounds of a major tournament for the very first time and they’ll feel more confident than usual of coming into this match with some points already on the board after finishing their qualifying campaign on 22 points from 10 games. Within that, they managed a 1-1 draw against Denmark — as well as a respectable 2-1 loss away — who they will face in their opening match at this tournament.

Heading to Germany as one of the pre-tournament favourites, England will want to keep standards high regardless of their position by the time this fixture comes around and you can be sure that fans will be uneasy with anything less than a comfortable victory.

England Latest Team News

Southgate will no doubt be closely monitoring a number of fitness issues with some of his key players, especially in defence, where he could be left short of options. That said, the Three Lions are utterly stacked in the final third, with the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka but a fraction of the elite talents they boast. In the past, Southgate has often relied upon pragmatism to get England through the group stages but given how stretched his defence may be, we could see the shackles loosened this time around.

Slovenia Latest Team News

There are few teams at Euro 2024 that will place so much pressure on just a couple of players. Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak is one of the best goalkeepers at the tournament and he’ll need to be at his very best as Slovenia come up against three very talented attacking sides. That’s not to say they’re without threats of their own, however, with Arsenal-linked Benjamin Sesko coming off an 18-goal season for RB Leipzig. Counter-attacking and making the most of set pieces will be the order of the day.

England vs Slovenia Head to Head

England have enjoyed an excellent record against Slovenia, winning five and drawing one of the six previous meetings, the first of which came in September 2009.
