How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs West Ham
Crystal Palace opened the new campaign with a 2-1 defeat away to Brentford and in their second game of the season they host West Ham at Selhurst Park. This is the start of Oliver Glasner’s first full season in charge of Palace, having replaced Roy Hodgson in February.
In such a short period of time, Glasner has already transformed Palace, and there is a lot of excitement surrounding the club. The Eagles lost just one of their seven home games under Glasner at the end of last season, with Manchester City the only team to leave Selhurst Park victorious.
It’s also a new era at West Ham, with Julen Lopetegui taking the reins. And this will be the first taste of an away trip for the Hammers under Lopetegui. On the road last season, West Ham won seven games, with only five teams managing more in the Premier League. However, they also lost 10 times, with only six teams losing more. It summed up West Ham’s end under David Moyes, having a lot of ups and downs. The Hammers were beaten 2-1 at home to Aston Villa in their first game under Lopetegui.
Despite defeats, both sides showed good signs in their opening matches, so this should be an interesting encounter.
Crystal Palace host West Ham at Selhurst Park on Saturday 24th August, at 3pm (UK time).
Crystal Palace team news
Crystal Palace will have to reshuffle their defence with Joachim Andersen close to a move to Fulham. Their centre-back options are very thin, so we could see Jefferson Lerma drop back alongside Marc Guehi and Chris Richards.
Will Hughes is a slight doubt after illness but may still feature. Matheus Franca is injured.
West Ham team news
Edson Alvarez could make the squad as he nears recovery from a hamstring injury, but it remains to be seen whether or not Kurt Zouma will be in the squad. Niclas Fullkrug will hope to start after playing 17 minutes from the bench on his debut.
Crystal Palace vs West Ham head-to-head
Crystal Palace are unbeaten in their past four games against West Ham with three wins and one draw. It comes after West Ham’s own four-game unbeaten run, though they won two of those matches.
