Crystal Palace vs Norwich EFL Cup prediction: Eagles seeking first win of season

Crystal Palace get their domestic cup campaign underway when they host Norwich City in the EFL Cup second round.

Oliver Glasner’s men are winless thus far in 2024/25, while the Canaries were given a scare by Stevenage in the opening stage.

Three predictions for Crystal Palace vs Norwich City

Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich City (19/2 with Unibet)

Crystal Palace have a good record against lower-league opposition in the EFL Cup. The Eagles have won their last seven home games when playing second-tier teams in the competition. Norwich, meanwhile, have conceded an average of two goals per game this season.

Jean-Philippe Mateta to score anytime (11/8 with BetUK)

Jean-Philippe Mateta is loving life at Selhurst Park under Oliver Glasner. The Frenchman has scored in seven of Crystal Palace’s last eight home games, netting 11 goals.

Crystal Palace to win to nil (33/20 with BetMGM)

Norwich have scored in three of their four games across all competitions this season. However, the game in which they failed to score was their only one away from home so far. Then, they were beaten 2-0 by Oxford United on the opening weekend of the Championship season.

How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs Norwich City

Saturday’s loss to West Ham ended Crystal Palace’s run of four consecutive home wins, during which they scored 16 goals. It was also their second defeat to start the 2024/25 season, having ended the previous campaign so well.

But before their search for a first Premier League point resumes, Palace turn their focus to the EFL Cup. The Eagles will be hoping to fare much better than last season, when they only made it to the third round of the EFL Cup — also exiting the FA Cup at that stage.

Palace are playing their first home EFL Cup tie since August 2019, when they were held to a goalless draw by Colchester — eventually losing 5-4 on penalties.

Norwich, meanwhile, earned their spot in the second round thanks to a 4-3 win over Stevenage earlier this month. That has been their only win of this season so far.

Following a loss to Oxford United on the opening day of the Championship, Norwich have drawn their next two matches. At the weekend, they held Sheffield United to a 1-1 draw having taken the lead.

Norwich have last their last four EFL Cup matches against Premier League opposition, since a 3-1 win over Cardiff City six years ago.

Crystal Palace host Norwich City at Selhurst Park on Tuesday at 8pm.

Crystal Palace latest team news

Ahead of their final Premier League fixture before the international break, Crystal Palace could rotate their squad. That may bring a first start for Ismaila Sarr, while Daichi Kamada could also be promoted from the bench.

The only confirmed absence for the hosts is Matheus Franca, while Will Hughes is likely to return from illness and be included in the matchday squad.

Norwich City latest team news

Norwich are expected to make some changes midweek, and Onel Hernandez is eager for a recall after scoring twice in the first-round win over Stevenage.

Ashley Barnes, Jacob Sorensen, and Christian Fassnacht are long-term absentees.

Crystal Palace vs Norwich City head-to-head
