The stats behind our Crystal Palace vs Man Utd predictions:

  • Man Utd are without a clean sheet in nine Premier League away games.

  • Man Utd have conceded first in each of their past two Premier League away games.
  • Man Utd have drawn five of their last seven matches across all competitions.

Mateta to take advantage of United’s defensive frailties?

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been a player reborn under Oliver Glasner.

The Frenchman has found the back of the net eight times in his 10 appearances under his new manager, with seven of them coming at Selhurst Park. He has been directly involved in more home goals than any other Crystal Palace player so far this season (8 goals, 2 assists) and and is looking to become the first player to score in his first six home appearances under one manager in the competition since Alan Shearer for Kevin Keegan in 1996/97.

Since the Austrian’s first game in charge of Palace against Burnley on the 24th February, only Cole Palmer (11) and Alexander Isak (10) have scored more Premier League than the Palace number 14 and he will be licking his lips at the prospect of facing this Manchester United defence. The Red Devils have conceded  77 goals in 47 games in all competitions this season, their most in a season since 1977-78 (80). Their current ratio of conceding (1.64 goals-per-game) is also their worst since the 1962-63 campaign (1.75 per game).

Erik ten Hag’s men have also been conceding a high volume of shots, with only West Ham (308) conceding more in the Premier League in 2024 than Manchester United (299). Infact, United have conceded 15+ shots in 13 of their 14 league games during this calendar year and 20+ shots in eight of their last 11.  This coupled with Manchester United’s injury problems at the back that has seen centre-backs Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Willy Kambwala and now Harry Maguire ruled out, means that Palace will be hopeful of winning three consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since October 2022.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd match tip

Over 1.5 Crystal Palace goals @ 4/5 with William Hill

Man Utd have been struggling defensively, and with the form Crystal Palace are in, it’s hard to see that not continuing. The Red Devils have conceded 10 goals in their past four away league games, letting in at least two on three occasions. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, have scored nine goals in their past three home league games.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd odds

*Odds correct as of 07:10 on May 06 | 18+ BeGambleAware

With Man Utd needing to win to help with a place in Europe next season and Palace unbeaten in their last four in the Premier League games, there is no clear favourite at Selhurst Park. Two of the past three matches between these sides at Selhurst Park have finished level however and we wouldn’t be surprised if both sides take a point here.
