How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs Leicester

Optimism was high among Crystal Palace fans going into the new season. The Eagles had ended 2023/24 well under Oliver Glasner and the new boss now had a pre-season to continue his work. But as a result of Palace’s good end, some of their players were targeted by other clubs.

Michael Olise and Joachim Andersen were the biggest departures, joining Bayern Munich and Fulham, respectively. Palace opened the new campaign with consecutive defeats, beaten by Brentford and West Ham in back-to-back London derbies. But they got their first point in another derby, holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw before the international break.

Leicester, meanwhile, are back in the Premier League after winning the Championship at the first time of asking. The 2015/16 Premier League champions will be hoping to make this stay a long one and beat the pre-season odds which had them favourites to go down.

The Foxes, now under Steve Cooper, did well to get a point on the opening weekend against Tottenham Hotspur having gone behind. But they have been unable to build on that with two defeats, losing to Fulham and Aston Villa.

Crystal Palace host Leicester at Selhurst Park on Saturday 14th September at 3pm (UK time).

Crystal Palace team news

Crystal Palace will hope to have both Jefferson Lerma and Matheus France available after the international break. However, Rob Holding and Chadi Riad are expected to be out for a little longer, with the former unlikely to be seen again in a Palace shirt having been cast out from first-team training and removing all mention of the club from his social media.

Adam Wharton pulled out of England U21 duty but should be fine to feature here.

Leicester team news

Leicester have two longer-term absentees for this game with Jakub Stolarczyk out until the new year. Patson Daka is expected to be out for another six weeks. Odsonne Edouard is ineligible to feature against his parent club.

Crystal Palace vs Leicester head-to-head

Crystal Palace won the most recent meeting between these two sides in April 2023. However, that was preceded by a seven-game winless run in this fixture which brought four Leicester victories.
