Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

Crystal Palace will host Chelsea in a Premier League showdown on Saturday 4th January. A win for the hosts on Saturday would see them jump above Manchester United in the table, while Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from a shock defeat to Ipswich Town. Check out our best bets and match preview.

Chelsea to Win (10/11 with Sky Bet)

Chelsea endured a terrible end to 2024, but I think they are a very backable price against Palace on Saturday at 10/11 with numerous firms, including Sky Bet. In their final game before Christmas, Enzo Maresca’s men failed to see off Everton before a 95th-minute home defeat to Fulham. They then made the trip to Ipswich, the only side yet to win at home in the league and lost 2-0 in a rather worrying performance.

However, The Blues are unbeaten in their last 15 against The Eagles (W14 D1 L0). They will welcome back a host of big names who were rested in the defeat against the Tractor Boys, and with Palace only winning two of their ten home matches this season; I think there’s plenty of reason to get behind a price of just under even money.

Will Hughes to be Carded & Cole Palmer Anytime Assist (12/1 with bet365)

I’ve also had a couple of quid on a 12/1 double via the bet365 Bet Builder feature. The first leg is for Will Hughes to be carded. In the absence of Adam Wharton, Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes have performed well in the middle of the park. The latter is Palace’s most-carded player this season with seven yellows in 17 appearances. Hughes has collected 0.58 cards per 90 minutes since the start of the campaign and leads the way for the most cautions in the league, along with Sasa Lukic, Bobakary Soumare and Flynn Downes.

I’ve also taken a lean towards Cole Palmer to provide an assist. No player was involved in more Premier League goals during 2024 than Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (26 goals, 13 assists), a record by a Blues player in a single year. Only Bruno Fernandes (99) created more chances (97) than Palmer last season and this term he has six assists in 19 appearances, including one against Palace at Stamford Bridge. This double pays just 7/1 with Betfair, so take the 12/1 on offer with 365.

How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs Chelsea

It has not been a great first half of the season for Crystal Palace who sit 15th in the table, five points clear of the relegation zone. The Eagles failed to win any of their first eight league matches this term but enjoyed a decent end to the calendar year by going undefeated in seven of their last eight (W3 D4 L1).

On the other hand, Chelsea enjoyed a five-game winning streak as part of an eight-game unbeaten run (which included two draws and six wins), placing them in early title contention. However, they have since struggled to live up to head coach Enzo Maresca’s statement that competing for the Premier League title in his first season may be premature. Chelsea have only managed to pick up one point from the last nine available, leaving them ten points behind league leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.

Crystal Palace team news

Matheus França and Adam Wharton will not be participating. Marc Guehi has returned from suspension, but there is no update on the return of Chadi Riad Dnanou, Franco Umeh-Chibueze, and Rob Holding.

Chelsea team news

Reece James and Wesley Fofana are both still unavailable and will be for an extended period. Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended, and there is no return date for Benoit Badiashile and Omari Kellyman.

Crystal Palace vs Chelsea head-to-head

Crystal Palace avoided defeat last time out against Chelsea, ending a 14-match losing streak in all competitions.
