The Premier League’s weird winter break continues with the second weekend of action, and Arsenal will be looking to get back on track. It’s three defeats in a row across all competitions for Arsenal, and four without victory, three of which have come in the Premier League. The run started with a draw against Liverpool at Anfield just before Christmas, with the Reds also knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup. After Christmas in the league, Arsenal lost two London derbies, beaten by West Ham at home before losing to Fulham away.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, had joy in a London derby last time out, beating Brentford 3-1 in their final game of 2023. The win ended Palace’s eight-game losing streak in the Premier League which had dragged them into the relegation battle. During that run, Palace lost five games, managing draws against West Ham, Manchester City and Brighton. Crystal Palace have started the New Year winless, however, drawing their FA Cup third round game against Everton before losing the replay. It isn’t a happy time at Selhurst Park.
Palace have also struggled away at Arsenal, winning just one of their last 12 trips to North London (D4, L7) , with the Gunners winning each of the last three head-to-head meetings between the two sides.
