Crystal Palace vs Man Utd prediction and stats: Will the Red Devils face another nightmare at Selhurst Park?

Crystal Palace will aim to continue their undefeated record at home against Manchester United on Matchday Five of the 2024/25 Premier League.

However, the hosts went into September’s international break having collected only one point from nine available, while United suffered back-to-back losses, putting increased pressure on their manager’s shoulders.

How to watch Crystal Palace vs Man Utd live

The showdown between Crystal Palace and Manchester United will be shown live on Saturday, 21st September at 5:30pm on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.

How both teams go into Crystal Palace vs Man Utd

Palace ended last season strongly under new manager Oliver Glasner, winning six out of seven games. This performance generated a lot of optimism and excitement for the upcoming season. However, they have not started as well as hoped, earning one point out of a possible nine. Palace lost their first two games to London teams Brentford and West Ham, but managed to secure an impressive draw in another London derby against Chelsea.

After narrowly saving his job, Erik ten Hag is now fighting to remain as the manager of Manchester United due to a disappointing start to their league campaign. United secured a narrow 1-0 opening-round victory over Fulham, but then suffered back-to-back defeats, first away at Brighton and then at home to arch-rivals Liverpool. To put this in some context: the Red Devils have lost two of their first three matches in a Premier League season for the third time in the last five seasons (also in 2020-21 and 2022-23). Ten Hag is the only manager to have suffered this fate twice with the club in the competition.

Crystal Palace host Man Utd at Selhurst Park on Saturday 21st September at 5:30pm.

Crystal Palace team news

Chadi Riad (knee) and Matheus Franca (rib) are still expected to remain sidelined. It’s believed that Adam Wharton’s withdrawal from the England under-21 squad is due to load management. Jefferson Lerma has recovered from a toe injury and has joined his national team during the recent break.

Man Utd team news

Mason Mount (muscle), Leny Yoro (foot), and Tyrell Malacia (knee) remain sidelined, while Victor Lindelöf (toe) is doubtful. However, Luke Shaw (calf) and Rasmus Højlund (hamstring) should be closer to recovery, with the latter already on the cusp of returning before the September international break.

Crystal Palace vs Man Utd head-to-head

Man Utd have not won in any of their last four visits to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, with two draws and two losses, including a 4-0 humbling earlier this year.
