Coventry vs Tottenham is scheduled for 8pm on Wednesday 18th September and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.
How both teams go into Coventry vs Tottenham
Before the season started, Postecoglou spoke of his record of winning silverware in his second year at clubs. And he doubled down on those comments last week, saying he “always” wins trophies in his second season. The EFL Cup represents his first opportunity to keep that statement true.
Tottenham are four-time winners of the EFL Cup, last lifting the trophy in 2008, beating Chelsea after extra-time. Since then, the north London club have been beaten finalists three times. And in the past two seasons they have struggled. In 2022/23, Tottenham bowed out in the third round, losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. And last season, they fell in the second round, beaten on penalties by Fulham.
Coventry, meanwhile, are already enjoying their best run in the EFL Cup since 2012/13 when they also reached the third round. Since then, Coventry have had eight first-round exits and three in the second round.
This season, the Sky Blues have won as many games in the EFL Cup as they did in their previous 10 matches. It’s been a pair of 1-0 wins for Coventry so far, beating Bristol City in the first round and Oxford United in the second.

Joel Latibeaudiere picked up an injury in Coventry’s draw with Watford at the weekend and may not be risked for this one. Ben Sheaf and Tatsuhiro Sakamoto are also out with injury.
Tottenham team news
Yves Bissouma and Richarlison are both absent for this game through injury, though shouldn’t be out for much longer. However, Postecoglou has admitted he is likely to make a number of changes, not just with younger players but others in the squad who haven’t had opportunities yet.
