Copenhagen snatched a point from the jaws of victory at Galatasaray on matchday one. The Danish champions had led 2-0 only to concede twice in the final four minutes. It was the first time they have failed to win a Champions League match in which they scored two goals in the sixth such instance. They have now failed to win any of their last seven games in the UCL, their longest winless streak in the competition (since at least 2005), while they have never beaten German opposition in 12 attempts in all competitions (D4 L8).

Bayern, meanwhile, claimed a 4-3 victory over Manchester United at home, although they had to hold out in a tense finale despite having led 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2, meaning they have now won their opening Champions League match in each of their last 20 campaigns. That win also means that the German side are unbeaten in their last 35 Champions League group stage games (W32 D3), winning the last 14 in a row. Both are the longest such runs in the group stages in the history of the competition.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are unbeaten in their last 17 away games in the group stage of the Champions League (W15 D2), winning each of the last six in a row. If they avoid defeat here, they will set a new record for most consecutive away games without defeat in the group stage of the competition, overtaking Barcelona’s run of 17 between November 2006 and October 2012.
