Another cup march for Chelsea?
Chelsea’s league form has been a serious cause for concern over the past couple of years and it’s actually close to seven years since they last won the title. However, in the cups, they continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
The Blues have already contested the EFL Cup final this season, reaching that particular showpiece for the second time in three campaigns. They also reached the FA Cup final two years ago. However, on all three occasions they were beaten by Liverpool, with the Sunday’s defeat coming thanks to a 118th-minute goal from Virgil van Dijk.
Should they go all the way in the FA Cup once again, it would be their sixth final in eight years, which is a remarkable return. And all that isn’t forgetting Chelsea lifting Champions League and Europa League titles within the last five years. But it is now six years since Chelsea last won the FA Cup, beating Manchester United 1-0 in the final in 2018. Since then, Chelsea have lost the FA Cup final three times, coming in consecutive years between 2020 and 2022 — losing to Arsenal, Leicester and Liverpool.
While they continue to languish in mid-table, Chelsea still now how to get it done in the cups and lifting a couple of trophies would do Mauricio Pochettino no harm in keeping his job and inspiring some confidence among his players that they can still compete with the best.
Chelsea vs Leeds match tip
Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Chelsea @ 18/5 by BetVictor
Chelsea didn’t score against Liverpool in 120 but boy did they have their chances. The Blues looked to take control of the game in the latter stage of the second half as Liverpool had to put their faith in younger players, but they just couldn’t finish their chances. Chelsea have become something of a second half team of late, with nine of their last 12 goals across all competitions coming after half time.
Chelsea vs Leeds odds
Even with their Premier League struggles, their top-flight status and vastly superior quality make Chelsea firm favourites for this match, though Leeds are flying high in the Championship and are in excellent form, so cannot be underestimated.
