Chelsea vs Aston Villa odds
*Odds correct as of 17:30 on September 23
Mauricio Pochettino isn’t enjoying the start to his life as Chelsea manager. With the goal of lifting Chelsea back up the table, Pochettino’s men are currently in the bottom half, 14th to be precise. The Blues are the second-lowest placed team among those to have won at least one match, and it has been just the one success for Chelsea this season. On the opening weekend Chelsea drew with Liverpool but they followed that up by losing to West Ham. Chelsea’s only win so far came at home to Luton, though that was to be expected against a Hatters side not yet at Premier League level. They haven’t been able to build on that win either, losing to Nottingham Forest at home and then struggling in a goalless draw with Bournemouth last weekend.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, have had a bit of a weird start to the season. The Villans are currently seventh in the table with three wins and two defeats from their opening five games. The season started with a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle but they then beat Everton 4-0 at Villa Park. One win stretched to two with victory over Burnley, but Villa then lost 3-0 to Liverpool before the international break. There was another win over Crystal Palace last weekend, before Villa opened their Europa Conference League campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Legia Warsaw. They just can’t get a run going.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa match tip
Aston Villa were made to work for their 3-1 win at Crystal Palace and have lost two of their three away league matches this season. But this Chelsea side do not look comfortable at home. There was a time when the Blues were unbeatable at Stamford Bridge, going four years without losing at home in the league. But since the start of 2023 Chelsea have own just three of their 15 home Premier League games, losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest last time out.
Chelsea vs Aston Villa Bet-Builder tip
Ollie Watkins is yet to score in the Premier League this season but he was one of those on the scoresheet when Aston Villa beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in April. The Blues’ defence has looked particularly leaky this season too, with just two clean sheets from their six matches across all competitions. But their matches haven’t been the most exciting, with just 10 goals in five Premier League games so far.
