After a slow start to the campaign, that saw them lose three of their opening four matches, Newcastle arrived in style at Bramall Lane last weekend, equalling their best ever result in the Premier League and becoming the first side in the competition’s history to have eight different goalscorers in a single game with an 8-0 thrashing of Sheffield United.

If that wasn’t good enough after securing a hard fought point in the Champions League against Milan at the San Siro, Eddie Howe’s side went one further, knocking treble winners Man City out of the League Cup on Wednesday thanks to the only goal of the game from Alexander Isak as they look to reach the final of the competition once more.

Burnley, meanwhile, are without a win on their return to the Premier League with Vincent Kompany finding it hard in the top flight. Playing each of their opening three matches at home, Burnley lost to defending champions Man City on the opening weekend before also losing to Aston Villa. Before the international break there was another defeat, this time 5-2 to Tottenham at Turf Moor, so Kompany may be looking to find more luck on the road, where they have picked up their only point of the campaign so far, a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

This is fifth time in their nine Premier League seasons, Burnley have failed to win any of their opening five matches (D1 L4) and they may have to wait even longer, having failed to win in any of their last nine away league games against Newcastle (D4 L5).

Newcastle vs Burnley match tip

Newcastle to win & BTTS @ 9/5 with Midnite

Newcastle have enjoyed their recent matches with Burnley, winning the last four in the league. Doing the league double in 2020/21 and 2021/22, Newcastle will be looking to win five consecutive league matches against Burnley for the first since 1955. However, the Magpies’ defence has proven a bit shaky this season with just two clean sheets so far.

Of the 13 previous instances of a team scoring eight goals in a Premier League match, only one has then gone on and lost their next match (W9 D3).

Newcastle vs Burnley Bet-Builder tip

Under 9.5 corners > Newcastle Over 2 cards

Newcastle haven’t had too many corners in the Premier League this season, averaging just 4.4 per game. But they also aren’t really giving them away, conceding on average five corners per match. However, one stat Newcastle do rank highly in is yellow cards. The Magpies are averaging 3.4 yellow cards per game in the Premier League this season, with no side having more.
