Brighton vs Man Utd Premier League prediction and stats: Red Devils look to turn tide on Seagulls
Manchester United travel to Brighton and Hove Albion for their first away game of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
The Red Devils beat Fulham 1-0 in their opening game, while the Seagulls will be full of confidence after thrashing Everton 3-0 away from home.
How to watch Brighton vs Man Utd live
Brighton vs Man Utd is scheduled for 12:30pm (UK time) on Saturday 24th August, with the game broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.
Three predictions for Brighton vs Man Utd
Brighton 2-0 Man Utd (13/1 with BetMGM)
Man Utd may have won on their last visit to the Amex, but the Red Devils do not like the south coast. They have lost four of their last seven Premier League away games against Brighton.
Danny Welbeck to score anytime (13/5 with BetMGM)
Danny Welbeck has scored five goals against Man Utd, only netting more vs Southampton (six) and West Ham (seven) during his career.
BTTS No (7/5 with BetMGM)
Recent games between these two sides haven’t really seen both sides score. In fact, only four of the past 11 games between Brighton and Man Utd have had both teams find the net.
How both teams go into Brighton vs Man Utd
Man Utd won 18 games in the Premier League last season, a low amount for a club of their stature. Of those 18 wins, eight came away from home. While only three teams won more away matches than the Red Devils last season, there was still disappointment among Man Utd fans. That may be because of what happened in the remaining 11 away matches. Alongside three draws, Man Utd lost eight away Premier League matches, including shock defeats to West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.
The Red Devils did end the 2023/24 Premier League campaign with an away win over Brighton, who will be searching for revenge. That defeat was the end of Roberto De Zerbi’s time in charge of Brighton, with the Italian calling an end to his stay at the Amex. In his stead, Fabian Hurzeler has been drafted in. This is Hurzeler’s first home league game in charge of the Seagulls and a chance for him to make good impressions. Last season, Brighton won eight of their 19 home league games, with six draws and five defeats.
Both teams will be inspired by their opening day results, but a change of opposition and surroundings will offer entirely new challenges.
Brighton host Man Utd at the Amex Stadium on Saturday at 12:30pm (UK time).
Brighton team news
Brighton are expected to still be without longer-term absentees Pervis Estupinan, Evan Ferguson, Solly March and Bart Verbruggen for this game. However, Joao Pedro started at Everton, while Billy Gilmour came of the bench and Valentin Barco was an unused substitute.
Yankuba Minteh suffered a head injury against Everton and will likely miss out here, but his replacement, Simon Adingra, got himself on the scoresheet from the bench. Danny Welbeck should continue to lead the line against his former club after registering a goal and an assist at Goodison Park.
Man Utd team news
Man Utd suffered injury blows in pre-season with Leny Yoro ruled out for a few months, and Rasmus Hojlund set to miss six weeks. Bruno Fernandes was used as a makeshift striker against Fulham but may drop into the No.10 role here, with Mason Mount benched to make way for Joshua Zirkzee, who scored the winner on his debut. Alejandro Garnacho will also be pushing for a start after assisting that goal, despite missing a golden opportunity of his own.
Harry Maguire’s withdrawal was described as precautionary by Erik ten Hag, so the defender should be fine to start again here after a solid performance — comical yellow card for diving notwithstanding.
Brighton vs Man Utd head-to-head
Man Utd’s 2-0 win over Brighton on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign ended a run of four-straight league defeats in this fixture. The Red Devils haven’t won back-to-back matches against Brighton since 2022, when they won seven games in a row.
