The pressure is on

Just a few days ago, Man City were two points clear at the top of the table and in control of the title race. Now, they trail leaders Arsenal by four points. The title is still theirs to lose, with Man City having two games in hand over their rivals, but that doesn’t guarantee wins. They will also be wary of following Liverpool’s footsteps as they were beaten 2-0 by Everton on Wednesday, which has many now ruling them out of the title race.

After suffering heartbreak in the Champions League last week, Man City did bounce back to secure another FA Cup final appearance, looking to defend their title their. And they’re in good form in the Premier League. Since losing 1-0 to Aston Villa in December, Man City have gone unbeaten in their past 17 league matches, winning 12 of those. Since their back-to-back draws against Liverpool and Arsenal in March, Man City have won three in a row, most recently beating Luton 5-1.

Brighton, meanwhile, face a massive uphill battle if they are to keep their European hopes alive. The Seagulls are  nine points behind sixth-placed Manchester United with six games left to play, and they aren’t in good form. It’s now four games without victory for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, with two draws and two defeats.

They have suffered in losses to Liverpool and Arsenal — which should encourage Man City — while drawing to Brentford and Burnley, the latter seeing them need a late own goal to breach the Clarets’ net. So unless Brighton win here, the remainder of the season could just be about finishing as high as possible and giving De Zerbi a reason to stay amid doubts surrounding his future.

It’s no surprise to see Man City named as strong favourites for this match, especially given their rampant goalscoring form at present. Brighton have won just two of their last 10 games across all competitions.
