For the first time since the 1991/92 season, the year before the Premier League was formed, Luton Town will play in the top flight of English football. The Hatters have gone all the way down to the Conference in 2009/10 and all the way back again, thanks to their penalty shootout win over Coventry in last season’s Championship play-off final.

Rob Edwards took over at Kenilworth Road in November last year after being sacked by rivals Watford and did the unthinkable at the time, taking the Hatters to the promised land, bringing Premier League football to the town for the first time.  Their campaign begins with an incredibly tough away game at last season’s surprise package Brighton, who excelled under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Italian, who took over from Chelsea bound Graham Potter, helped the Seagulls qualify for European football for the first time in their history, as they finished 6th. This season, despite the loss of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister and rumours of Moises Caicedo’s imminent departure, De Zerbi is keen to go one step further and push for the Champions League spots in his first full season as Brighton manager.

Luton didn’t win a single away league game in their last season as a top-flight club in 1991-92, drawing five and losing 16 of their 21 games so this could be the perfect opportunity to put things right.
