Injustice boost no longer running for Everton

When Everton were deducted 10 points in November, there was a sense of injustice, as they had communicated with the Premier League about their finances in the hopes of staying out of trouble. In their very first game after the decision was announced, Everton were beaten 3-0 at home by Manchester United, though it’d be understandable if their minds were elsewhere.

After having time to collect their thoughts, Everton regrouped and put on a good winning run in the Premier League. The Toffees won their next four games, beating Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea and Burnley all without conceding to lift themselves up to 16th. However, they are now winless in their last eight Premier League games, losing to Tottenham, Wolves and Man City (twice) while drawing against Fulham, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Crystal Palace. It leaves just above the relegation zone on goal difference, but they know they can put the pressure on Luton below them, with the Hatters not playing this weekend.

Brighton, meanwhile, are looking far from the side that secured European football last season. Tipped to trouble the top four, Brighton have recently moved up to seventh after an underwhelming campaign so far. The Seagulls are nine points off the top five, which are the only guaranteed European spots right now. And they’re just three points clear of 11th-placed Wolves.

There was a particularly rough patch between the end of September and November in which Brighton went winless in six, drawing four. They then won two in three to ease questions being asked, but they’ve been inconsistent since. In their past 10 games since beating Brentford 2-1 in December, Brighton have managed just three victories, most recently thrashing Sheffield United 5-0. They’ve drawn four and lost three, but they are unbeaten in their past 10 home league games.

Brighton vs Everton match tip

Brighton to win to nil @ 5/2 by 10bet

Brighton haven’t been the best side defensively this season, but they host an Everton team toothless on the road right now. The Toffees have failed to score in each of their past four away games across all competitions, losing two alongside two goalless draws. It comes after Everton won four in a row on the road, three while keeping a clean sheet.

The Seagulls have found the back of the net in 14 of their 15 home games across all competitions, scoring 4+ goals in two of their last three at the Amex.

Brighton vs Everton odds

*Odds correct as of 19:30 on February 23

Although Brighton are in an inconsistent run in general, they are pretty formidable at home right now, and that’s why the odds are in their favour. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their past 11 games at the Amex across all competitions, since a 3-2 defeat to AEK Athens in the Europa League. At the same time, Everton have been pretty woeful on the road, winless in their last five away games and without a goal in their last three.
