Brighton handed a new route into Europe
Liverpool look destined to qualify for European football through their league standing, which means their Europa Conference League spot as EFL Cup winners will go to a Premier League team. As things stand, sixth place is good enough to qualifying for the Europa Conference League play-off round, and Brighton are seventh.
The Seagulls sit five points behind sixth-placed Manchester United but will be keeping an eye on the form of the Red Devils, who look shaky at the best of times. Brighton themselves have been on a good unbeaten run at home this season, only losing once in the league to West Ham in August. Since then, the Seagulls have gone unbeaten in 11 matches at the Amex. Unfortunately for Brighton — and this is the story of their season so far — there have been a few too many draws. Six of those 11 games have finished level, and Brighton have nine draws in total in the Premier League, more than any other side. It’s the main reason they aren’t higher in the league, and at the moment they’re alternating home wins and draws. Last time out it was a draw, so will the sequence continue with victory here?
At the other end of the table, Nottingham Forest will be wary of the threat of relegation. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently 17th, four points clear of the relegation zone, but they have dropped recently. With Everton points deduction being reduced to six, the Toffees’ climb have put Nottingham Forest right into the mix. They were always in the battle, but now they will be firmly in Luton’s sights. Luton, who occupy the last relegation spot, also have a game in hand on Nottingham Forest and will be watching them closely. Nottingham Forest are currently winless in their past three away games and have only won two games on the road all season, though those did come against Chelsea and Newcastle.
Brighton vs Nottingham Forest match tip
Nottingham Forest have been the team to watch on the road in the Premier League this season, although maybe not if you actually support them. In five of Forest’s past seven away league games, at least four goals have been scored, including in the 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa last time out. At the same time, Brighton have scored four goals in two of their past four home league games, while seven of their 13 games at the Amex have seen at least four goals scored.
Brighton vs Nottingham Forest odds
*Odds correct as of 09:10 on February 27. 18+ only. BeGambleAware.
Brighton are the favourites here and it’s clear to see why. Although they do have European football just a few days before, the Seagulls have been tough to beat at home this season. Only West Ham have left the Amex with all three points in the Premier League this season, with Tottenham and Newcastle among those to suffer defeats. At the same time, Nottingham Forest have lost eight of their 11 away Premier League games this season and are yet to experience victory on the road in 2024.
