How both teams go into Brighton vs Liverpool

After a bit of a slump last season, Brighton are looking like European contenders once again, with Chelsea the only side to beat them in 11 competitive games so far this campaign. The Seagulls have already seen off Crawley (4-0) and Wolves (3-2) in this season’s EFL Cup and will now look to land a big scalp to reach the semi-finals.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have been rampant under Arne Slot. They’ve won eight of their last nine matches across all competitions in a run that includes victories against Chelsea, AC Milan and RB Leipzig, while their shock loss to Nottingham Forest in mid-September is their only defeat all season. The Reds thrashed West Ham 5-1 in the previous round of this competition and will now look to inflict further punishment on Brighton before the two sides meet again in the Premier League next weekend.

Brighton team news

Brighton will hope to welcome back a number of players for this match, including Adam Webster and James Milner. However, Matt O’Riley won’t be fit until later in November.

Liverpool team news

Harvey Elliott and Alisson Becker both remained sidelined until some time later in November, but Federico Chiesa should be back in time for this match. Diogo Jota picked up a knock against Chelsea and won’t feature here, while Conor Bradley is also out.

The starting XI for this match is likely to look quite different to the one that’ll face Brighton in the Premier League days later, although Slot will still name a strong team.

Brighton vs Liverpool head-to-head

Brighton have given a decent account of themselves against Liverpool recently, with their 2-1 loss at Anfield in March ending a four-game unbeaten run against the Reds across all competitions.
