The stats behind our Brentford vs Newcastle predictions:

  • Newcastle have alternated between a loss and a win in their last five Premier League away games.

Newcastle’s European showdown

Defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in midweek has put a spanner in the works for Newcastle playing in Europe next season.

They now sit seventh, three points behind Chelsea in sixth and level on points with Manchester United in eighth (who are only behind them on goal difference) going into the final game. As it stands, sixth place will be enough to secure a Europa Conference League place for 2024/25, but if Man City win the FA Cup then sixth will elevated into the Europa League and the 7th place side will be awarded a spot in the Europa Conference League.

To have any chance of back-to-back European campaigns after their adventure in the Champions League this season, Eddie Howe’s side know they must win and hope Chelsea lose at home to Bournemouth to secure 6th, while if they match Manchester United’s result and Manchester City win the FA Cup, then it will be the Europa Conference League for Newcastle next season.

They face a Brentford side who have already secured their spot in the Premier League next season after a disappointing campaign and the only thing they have to play for is moving one spot up the table into 15th. After a run of just two wins in 18, Thomas Frank’s men have now won three of their last five (D1) and will be hoping to end the season on a high.

Brentford vs Newcastle match tip

Anthony Gordon to score anytime @ 23/10 by BetMGM

Anthony Gordon is just the third Newcastle player to hit double figures for both goals and assists in a single Premier League campaign after Andrew Cole in 1993-94 (34 goals, 13 assists) and Ruel Fox in 1994-95 (10 goals, 11 assists). The former Everton man has been in fine form this season, with no Newcastle player being directly involved in more Premier League goals in 2023/24 than the 23-year-old (21 – level with Alexander Isak).

Brentford vs Newcastle odds

*Odds correct as of 07:25 on May 16 | 18+ BeGambleAware

With a European place on the line for Newcastle and Brentford having nothing to play for, it’s Eddie Howe’s side who are slight favourites for this one despite their mixed away form. The Toon Army have alternated between a win and a loss in their five away games in the Premier League and with defeat at Old Trafford in midweek, they will be hoping the pattern continues.
