How both teams go into Brazil vs Ecuador
It has been a challenging qualifying campaign for Brazil, as they are currently in sixth place in the standings. The Seleção suffered a 1-0 defeat to Argentina in their previous World Cup qualifying fixture. In addition to their struggles in the World Cup qualifiers, Brazil faced difficulties in this year’s Copa América, where they could not advance beyond the quarter-finals. Despite the recent challenges, Dorival Júnior’s team have only suffered one defeat in their last eight matches, which was a loss in a penalty shootout against Uruguay at the Copa.
Ecuador are currently just one point ahead of Brazil in the standings. Sebastian Beccacece’s team have secured two wins, including a 1-0 victory over Chile in their last match. During the Copa América, the Ecuadorians struggled and were eliminated in the quarter-finals on penalties by eventual winners Argentina. They only managed to win one out of four matches in the tournament and are heading into this latest outing following two consecutive draws.
Brazil will host Ecuador on Saturday 7th September at 2am (UK time) at the Couto Pereira Stadium in Curitiba.
Brazil team news
Brazil continue to miss Neymar, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in October 2023, while Yan Couto and Savinho have withdrawn from Dorival’s squad due to injuries. In their places, 17-year-old Palmeiras attacker Estevao Willian, who joins Chelsea next summer, has been called up and with Raphinha suspended, Dorival may choose to field a forward an all-Real Madrid frontline of Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, and Endrick.
Ecuador team news
Ecuador cannot count on defender Christian Ramirez, who was forced to withdraw from the squad due to an ankle injury sustained in Ferencvaros’ Europa League qualifying clash with Borac. Pervis Estupinan has not played an international game since March 2023 due to injury. However, he’s returned and is expected to start against Brazil, while Enner Valencia should lead their attack, and he will be looking to add to the record 41 goals he’s already scored for his country.
Brazil vs Ecuador head-to-head
Ecuador have won two of their 35 matches against Brazil but are unbeaten in their last two.
