Bournemouth have had a decent start to the 2024/25 Premier League season and arguably should be on more points. The Cherries are looking good under Andoni Iraola, having suffered with inconsistency at times last season.

They opened the campaign with a draw against Nottingham Forest, which both sides would have taken at the start of the season. But Bournemouth were angry to not make it four points from two games as they saw a late winner controversially disallowed against Newcastle United. The Cherries looked to be falling to a defeat against Everton last time out, but made Premier League history in coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2, having trailed as late as the 87th minute.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are under yet another new manager. Enzo Maresca has taken the reins after Mauricio Pochettino left at the end of last season. The Blues had another busy summer in the transfer window but don’t seem to have completely solved their problems.

It was a tricky start to the season as Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by defending champions Manchester City on the opening weekend. But they bounced back to thrash Wolves 6-2 away from home, which gave Chelsea fans hope — and extending their winning run away from home to three. That win was sandwiched between Chelsea beating Servette to reach the Europa Conference League knockout stages, though there was a defeat in the second leg. And, last time out, Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw by Crystal Palace having led at Stamford Bridge.

Bournemouth host Chelsea at the Vitality Stadium at 8pm on Saturday 14th September.

Bournemouth team news

Kepa Arrizabalaga will be unable to play against his former club on Saturday. With Neto now playing for Arsenal, Mark Travers is expected to be the goalkeeper for the upcoming match.

Enes Unal (foot) and Tyler Adams (back) are still unavailable for selection. Additionally, it’s uncertain whether Philip Billing will recover from his back problem in time for the weekend.

Luis Sinisterra may earn a starting position in the first team, possibly in place of Evanilson or Marcus Tavernier.

Chelsea team news

Jadon Sancho could make his first appearance for Chelsea this weekend, as he was not eligible to play against Crystal Palace due to his last-minute deadline-day arrival.

Cole Palmer is expected to be fit to play this weekend after withdrawing from the England squad with a thigh injury. There is also a possibility that Romeo Lavia may still be available.

Reece James (thigh), Malo Gusto (thigh), Omari Kellyman (thigh), and Filip Jorgensen (unspecified) may all miss the upcoming match. This could mean Axel Disasi will have to step in as a makeshift right-back.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea head-to-head

After winning back-to-back games in 2019, Bournemouth are now five matches without victory against Chelsea. The Blues beat Bournemouth 2-1 on the final day of last season to secure European football.
