There will no doubt be some part of Borussia Dortmund still agonising over their failure to win the Bundesliga title last season, but they will now be channelling it to their quest this year. Edin Terzic’s side are still unbeaten after four games of the new season, though it hasn’t been a perfect start. Dortmund opened the Bundesliga campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Koln but then drew their next two matches against Bochum and Heidenheim, two very disappointing results. They did return to winning ways after the international break, securing a 4-2 victory over Freiburg to leave them just two points behind the early leaders. A 2-0 defeat away to PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday wasn’t a welcome result though.
Wolfsburg, meanwhile, are one point and one place above Dortmund in this early table. It’s been a positive start for Wolfsburg who missed out on European football completely last season with their eighth-placed finish. They opened the campaign with back-to-back wins over Heidenheim and Koln, but lost to Hoffenheim before the international break. Like Dortmund, there was a winning return, however, with Union Berlin beaten 2-1 at the weekend.
