How both teams go into Bayern Munich vs Celtic
Bayern Munich finished 12th in the group stage, just one point outside the automatic last 16 spots. But they didn’t have a straightforward journey to the knockout phase play-offs, losing three of their five group games. One of those defeats came against Feyenoord in their penultimate game. Had they won that, Bayern would have been safe in the last 16. But they gave themselves a strong chance of reaching the next round anyway with victory in the first leg.
Celtic, meanwhile, finished on 12 points in the group stage. They were just one point above 25th-placed Dinamo Zagreb, having lost their final game against Aston Villa. But they still held onto their spot in the knockout phase play-offs, albeit as an unseeded side. Celtic haven’t made it to the last 16 of the Champions League since 2012-13, when they were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by Juventus.
