Bayern Munich vs Celtic predictions, odds, betting tips and team news

Celtic travel to the Allianz Arena hoping to come from behind against Bayern Munich in their Champions League knockout phase play-off tie on Tuesday 18th February at 8pm (UK time).

Bayern won the first leg at Celtic Park 1-2 and are favourites now to reach the last 16. They also have a good record against Celtic, winning four of the five previous meetings. This game will be broadcast live on Amazon Prime Video.

Bayern -1, Reo Hatate 2+ total shots and Dayot Upemacano 2+ total tackles (15/4 with Sky Bet)

Bayern have scored at least three goals in each of their last seven home games in all competitions and they have the quality to really put Celtic to the sword in this second leg. However, they will have to be wary of midfielder Reo Hatate. The Japanese international took two shots in the first leg and is the only Celtic player to average as many as 2.2 shots per 90 minutes in the Champions League so far this season. Although Bayern will be expected to dominate possession, they’ll hope to rely on Dayot Upemecano to quell any Bhoys counter-attacks. The Frenchman made two tackles in the first leg and followed that up by winning five tackles in the Bundesliga stalemate with Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.

Highest Scoring Half: 2nd (10/11 with Betfair)

Bayern’s nine Champions League games so far this season have seen 35 goals scored, with 20 coming after half-time. Die Roten’s last four Bundesliga games have seen more goals scored after the break than before and indeed their last two league fixtures have actually been goalless going into the half-time break. Celtic will hope to keep things tight in order to remain in the tie for as long as possible but could tire in the latter stages.

How both teams go into Bayern Munich vs Celtic

Bayern Munich finished 12th in the group stage, just one point outside the automatic last 16 spots. But they didn’t have a straightforward journey to the knockout phase play-offs, with a defeat against Feyenoord in their penultimate game. Had they won that, Bayern would have been safe in the last 16. But they gave themselves a strong chance of reaching the next round anyway with a 1-2 victory at Celtic Park thanks to goals from Michael Olise and Harry Kane.

Celtic, meanwhile, finished on 12 points in the group stage. They were just one point above 25th-placed Dinamo Zagreb, having lost their final game against Aston Villa. But they still held onto their spot in the knockout phase play-offs, albeit as an unseeded side. Celtic haven’t made it to the last 16 of the Champions League since 2012-13, when they were beaten 5-0 on aggregate by Juventus. The Bhoys have been dominant domestically though, sitting 13 points clear of Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership

Bayern Munich team news

Alphonso Davies remains out for Bayern. Joao Palhinha has missed the past two matches due to illness, but is expected to return for this game. The only other absentee is back-up goalkeeper Daniel Peretz.

Celtic team news

James Forrest will continue to miss out for Celtic with a foot problem and he’s joined on the sidelines by midfielder Paulo Bernardo. The Bhoys chose to rest a handful of key players for their 3-0 win over Dundee United on Saturday in preparation for this trip to Munich.

Bayern Munich vs Celtic head-to-head

Bayern Munich and Celtic have now faced off five times in competitive football. The German side’s 1-2 win in Glasgow in the first leg was their fourth victory over Celtic, with one defeat.
