Despite losing just one of their opening 15 games, Barcelona go into this match five points behind rivals Real Madrid and four adrift of opponents Girona in La Liga, hoping to close the gap. Xavi’s side made it 10 wins from 11 home games across all competitions with a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid last weekend to open up a three-point gap to them and Atletico in fourth. João Félix’s 28th-minute strike against his former side was enough to hand Barca the victory as they look to win back-to-back league titles. The Blaugrana will be hoping to make the most of Real Madrid’s slip-up in a 1-1 draw at Real Betis on Saturday.

Girona, meanwhile, currently sit just one point Real Madrid on top of the La Liga table after Cristhian Stuani’s brace from the bench saw them come from behind to beat Valencia last weekend. It was the 12th time from their 15 league games that they had picked up all three points, with their only defeat in the competition so far in 2023/24 coming at the hands of Real Madrid at the end of September. They are currently on an eight-game unbeaten run across all competitions, but face a tough task of making it nine against a side they are yet to beat in La Liga (D2, L6). If they do manage another famous win, Girona will go top of the league.

Barcelona vs Girona match tip

Score Draw @ 5/1 with Bet 365

Despite never beating Barcelona in La Liga, Girona will be confident of extending their unbeaten run away from home in the league to eight games (W6, D1), especially after picking up a point in each of their last two away trips to the Catalan giants. Girona have scored in all seven of their away games so far this campaign, while Barcelona scored in their last 14 league games, failing to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four games across all competitions.

Joao Felix names one player he’d like to join him at Barcelona

Barcelona have never been short of talent over the years, but they’re always on the lookout for the next star to add to their ranks. Right now, sitting on the fringes of the title race, they might well be already looking ahead to the next couple of transfer windows, plotting how to improve their side and once again take their place at the top of Spanish and European football.

Current Blaugrana star Joao Felix is only on loan at the Camp Nou from title rivals Atletico Madrid, but the Portugal international might well be part of the club’s future planning, with reports suggesting Barca are looking to make that loan permanent.

Felix appears to have the appetite for a long stay at the Catalan club, too, as he recently came out to highlight one player he’d like to join him at Barcelona in the future: Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

Of course, Barcelona may have to wait a while given the Hungary international only arrived at Anfield in the summer from RB Leipzig. But he’s already making his presence felt, sitting in the top three among Liverpool players in the Premier League for several key metrics, including chances created, take-ons attempted/completed and tackles.

Szoboszlai has drawn praise from a range of pundits across football and it appears he’s also caught the eye of Felix, who revealed he’d like to see the 23-year-old join him at Barcelona one day.

“Dominik Szoboszlai, from Liverpool. I like his game and I think he could play here one day,” Felix responded when asked on Spíler TV which young player he would like to play with at Barcelona.

Who knows how much the Blaugrana would have to pay for Szoboszlai given Liverpool paid £60m for his services just a matter of months ago…
