Aston Villa vs Wolves prediction and stats: Will Unai Emery end 20-year wait?

Aston Villa will be hoping to build on a decent start to the new Premier League season when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.

Unai Emery’s side have won two of their opening three league matches this season, losing the other. Wolves, meanwhile, are still waiting for their first win, with a draw and two defeats so far.

Three Aston Villa vs Wolves predictions

Aston Villa 2-1 Wolves (7/1 with Midnite)

With their climb up the Premier League table last season, Aston Villa may have ended their Wolves hoodoo. The Villans took four points against Wolves in the league for the first time since 2012, also ending a run of six matches without victory. But, Villa haven’t beaten Wolves in back-to-back league games since 2004.

Jhon Duran to score anytime (odds TBC)

Jhon Duran has come off the bench to score in two of Aston Villa’s three league games so far this season.

Highest Scoring Half: 2nd (1/1 with Paddy Power)

Eight of the 10 goals scored at Villa Park in the past five games between Aston Villa and Wolves have come in the second halves of matches.

How to watch Aston Villa vs Wolves live

Aston Villa vs Wolves is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday 21st September but will not be broadcast live in the UK.

How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Wolves

A lot of this season will be about gauging exactly where Aston Villa are. Under Unai Emery, the Villans booked their return to the top table of Europe in qualifying for the Champions League. Last season we saw Newcastle struggle with both the Champions League and Premier League demands. So what will Villa do?

While their Champions League campaign is yet to get underway, Villa have started well in the Premier League. They opened the campaign with a 2-1 win over West Ham at the London Stadium. However, they then lost 2-0 to Arsenal, being outplayed in front of their own fans. Villa did bounce back, though, to beat Leicester before the international break.

Wolves, meanwhile, are looking to build on a decent first season under Gary O’Neil. Although they finished in the bottom half of the table, O’Neil was only appointed on the eve of the new campaign, so was working largely with someone else’s team.

This season we should see more of what Wolves can achieve under O’Neil. But it hasn’t been a good start. Wolves lost their opening two matches, beaten 2-0 by Arsenal and then 6-2 against Chelsea. They did get their first start before the international break, though, with a draw against Nottingham Forest.

Aston Villa host Wolves at Villa Park at 3pm on Saturday 21st September.

Aston Villa team news

Jaden Philogene could be available for selection after the international break, but Villa will still be waiting to find out more about Leon Bailey’s injury. Matty Cash, Tyrone Mings and Boubacar Kamara are also expected to miss this game.

Wolves team news

Enso Medina, Sasa Kalajdzic and Boubacar Traore will be absent for this game, but the latter could be back sooner rather than later.

Aston Villa vs Wolves head-to-head

Aston Villa beat Wolves 2-0 last time out, ending a run of six matches without victory in this fixture. However, they haven’t won back-to-back league games against Wolves since 2004.
