How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Tottenham
Tottenham may welcome a break from the Premier League, where they are struggling. But Ange Postecoglou’s side had to fight hard to reach the fourth round of the FA Cup. They had one of the easiest ties on paper, facing non-league side Tamworth. But they needed extra-time to eventually secure a 0-3 win against tired legs.
This is the second all-Premier League clash Aston Villa have had to contest in the FA Cup this season. In the third round, they beat fellow claret-and-blue club West Ham United 2-1 at Villa Park. That was part of a five-match unbeaten run across all competitions, which did come to an end against Monaco in the Champions League. Unai Emery is starting to make Villa Park a fortress again, though, with the Villans unbeaten in their past nine home games across all competitions.
Aston Villa team news
Tyrone Mings is still waiting for confirmation on the extent of his injury, while Pau Torres is out for another month. Matty Cash will also be absent whilst there are major doubts over Ollie Watkins and Ross Barkley.
Tottenham team news
Tottenham could have a host of players back by the time this game comes around, but there are still some big absentees. Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario and Dominic Solanke won’t be back for Tottenham, while Timo Werner will also be absent. Wilson Odobert is a longer-term absentee along with Brennan Johnson, Radu Dragusin and Micky van de Ven.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham head-to-head
After losing three consecutive matches, Tottenham have won their past two games against Aston Villa. They’ve scored eight goals across those two games, conceding just once.
