Aston Villa will host Leicester in a Premier League showdown on Saturday 4th January. A win for the hosts could see them climb as high as sixth, while a much-needed three points for the visitors could see them move out of the relegation zone. Check out our match preview and best bets below.
Aston Villa -1 Match Handicap (10/11 with Sky Bet)
Since losing their opening home Premier League game of this season against Arsenal, Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last nine at Villa Park (W5 D4). The Villans have scored 2+ goals in 12 of their last 17 on home soil.
Leicester on the other hand, have lost each of their last four Premier League games. The Foxes have failed to keep a clean sheet in all of their last 13 matches across all competitions, conceding multiple goals in all of their last five. Leicester’s last matches have been defeats by at least a two-goal margin.
John McGinn to be fouled 2+ times & to commit 2+ fouls (11/4 with Paddy Power – Power Prices)
My second tip for this match is for John McGinn to be fouled 2+ times and to commit 2+ fouls. This can be found inside Paddy Power’s ‘Power Prices’ section on the match page.
McGinn is Aston Villa’s most fouled player this season, with the Scot clearing the 2+ line in all of his last eight Premier League matches. Since the start of the campaign, he is averaging 2.75 fouls won per 90 minutes.
This is a bet that has landed in four of his last six home matches. Odds of 11/4 imply just a 26.7% chance of this bet landing against Leicester, and I’d have it much priced much shorter at around the 7/4 region.

How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Leicester
Fighting on two fronts at home and in Europe has proven to be a challenging experience for Aston Villa, who at one point went on a five-game winless streak, suffering three losses and two draws. However, they have kept a strong home record and remain in the hunt for a European qualification spot again this season. Villa were held to a 2-2 draw against Brighton last time out and will be confident of taking three points against a relegation-threatened Leicester side.
Back in the Premier League, the former Premier League Champions find themselves in a relegation battle. At the halfway point, the Foxes sit second from bottom, lingering in the relegation zone but just two points away from safety. Under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, they began with an impressive 3-1 victory over West Ham and followed it up with a hard-earned point against Brighton. However, the initial honeymoon period seems to have ended, as Leicester have now lost their last four matches in a row.
Aston Villa team news
John Duran and Morgan Rogers are both suspended and will not feature against Leicester. Pau Torres was forced off against Brighton and is currently being assessed.
Leicester team news
Issahaku Fatawu remains unavailable for an extended period due to a knee injury. Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew is set to return from suspension. However, there is currently no timeline for the return of Mads Hermansen, Ricardo Pereira, and Kasey McAteer.
Aston Villa vs Leicester head-to-head
One of the last seven meetings in the Premier League had now been won by the home team.
