Pochettino’s blues to continue
Things were looking up for Chelsea in their hunt for a return to European football. The Blues had almost put their destiny in their own hand, closing the gap on the teams above them with games in hand. This game thanks to an eight-game unbeaten run in the Premier League which brought four wins and four draws. But that has come to a screeching halt.
In midweek, Chelsea made the short trip to the Emirates hoping to put a dent in Arsenal’s title hopes. But it was completely the opposite. Chelsea left the Emirates after a 5-0 thrashing, following an all-round poor performance which has the vultures circling around Mauricio Pochettino once again. It leaves Chelsea in ninth, now six points behind sixth-placed Manchester United with only one game in hand.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are in a good position. With four games left to play, Unai Emery’s side are fourth in the Premier League, six points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur. The north London side do have two games in hand, but Villa will fancy their chances of keeping hold of the spot, particularly with goal difference.
There was a wobble for Villa recently, which included a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City, that allowed Tottenham to take some semblance of control. But the Villans bounced back from that with three games unbeaten, including wins over Arsenal and Bournemouth. That, coupled with a defeat to Tottenham last time out, has things looking bright for Villa.

Chelsea were in a good run before the weekend, but when you look deeper things still weren’t too great. The Blues have won just one of their last Premier League games played outside of London, beating Luton alongside two draws and five defeats. At the same time, Aston Villa have won 20 games in the Premier League this season, the most they’ve managed in a 38-match top-flight campaign since 1989/90 — when they won 21.
Emery has also been enjoying his league games against Chelsea recently, winning each of his past three against the Blues without his sides conceding a single goal.
