Unai Emery has warned his Aston Villa side to prepare for extra time and penalties as they welcome Ajax after the first leg ended goalless in Amsterdam. The coach rotated his squad but couldn’t breach their opponents’ five-man defence. “We will try to do something different because now we know them better,” he said.
Ajax head coach John van ‘t Schip took a positive outlook from the stalemate – “We are halfway through a double-header; I can live with the first half” – while his midfield general Jordan Henderson is looking forward to a tough return home. “Another tough game awaits,” the former Liverpool captain added. “We knew it would be tough, but we also have quality. We can take those positive things with us.”
