Arsenal did the league double over Tottenham last season, the first time they have achieved such bragging rights since 2013/14. The six points helped Arsenal to their second-placed finish and also contributed to the Gunners finishing above Tottenham in the league table for the first time since 2015/16. So far this season, Arsenal are proving that it was no fluke, still unbeaten after four games. The Gunners opened the campaign with victories over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace before drawing against Fulham. But they bounced back with a pair of wins over Manchester United and Everton either side of the international break.
Last season, there were a massive 24 points between second-placed Arsenal and Tottenham down in eighth, but at the minute it’s only goal difference separating them. And Tottenham are the team ahead. Ange Postecoglou couldn’t have asked for a better start to life in the Premier League, with Tottenham currently second, two points behind Manchester City. Tottenham are also unbeaten, winning four and drawing one of their first five games. They started with a draw against Brentford but have bowled on with victories over Man Utd, Bournemouth, Burnley and Sheffield United, the latter coming via a dramatic, late comeback.
Going into the weekend, Tottenham led the Premier League for touches in the opponent’s box, at 230, which is also the most of any side across Europe’s top five leagues. They have also attempted more shots (101) than any other side in Europe’s top five leagues, and the second-most possessions won in the final third in the Premier League.
And there was some fighting from Postecoglou ahead of the game, insisting his side will not be changing tactics for the weekend.

Arsenal vs Tottenham match tip
James Maddison to score or assist @ 2/1 with Betfair
James Maddison has enjoyed his start to life as a Tottenham player. Joining from Leicester following their relegation, the Englishman has been directly involved in four Premier League goals so far. Maddison provided two assists on the opening weekend against Brentford, before scoring in wins over Bournemouth and Burnley. There was a blank against Sheffield United last weekend, but all four of his goal involvements have come in away matches this season.
Arsenal vs Tottenham Bet-Builder tip
Arsenal to win, BTTS & Over 2.5 goals
It may feel as though Arsenal haven’t had much fortune against Tottenham of late, but the opposite is actually the case. As well as doing the league double over Tottenham last season, Arsenal have won four of their past five against their rivals. The only exception was a 3-0 home win for Tottenham towards the end of the 2021/22 season. Tottenham also haven’t won at the Emirates in the Premier League since November 2010. Mikel Arteta alone has won all three of his home league games against Tottenham as Arsenal manager.
