How both teams go into Arsenal vs Southampton
Arsenal’s quest for a Premier League title has had a decent start. The Gunners have agonisingly missed out on the title in each of the past two seasons. After five games this season, Mikel Arteta’s men are still unbeaten with three wins and two draws.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have all fallen to Arsenal, with draws against Brighton and Manchester City. But it’s worth noting that those two draws did both see Arsenal reduced to 10 men.
Southampton’s return to the Premier League hasn’t been the best. Saints have picked up just one point from their opening five games and sit in the early relegation zone. Russell Martin’s men lost each of their opening four matches, before finally getting a point against Ipswich Town.

Arsenal will have Leandro Trossard back for this game following suspension. But they do still have some injury problems. Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney won’t be back until after the October international break.
Southampton team news
Jack Stephens will be available for Southampton having served his three-match ban for his red card picked up against Man United. But Kamaldeen Sulemana isn’t expected back until after the international break, while Gavin Bazunu is a long-term absentee.
