Arsenal vs PSG prediction and stats: Blockbuster clash in North London

Matchday 2 of the Champions League sees a heavyweight clash as Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain meet in North London.

While the Gunners required a David Raya penalty save to earn a 0-0 draw at Europa League holders Atalanta on Matchday 1, PSG secured a narrow 1-0 win at home against debutants Girona courtesy of a 90th-minute own goal.

Three Arsenal vs PSG predictions

Arsenal 1-0 PSG (7/1 with SkyBet)

PSG have lost each of their last three away games against English sides in the Champions League, losing twice to Manchester City (both in 2021). and once to Newcastle last season. Their 1-4 defeat at St. James’ Park last term was their heaviest away defeat to an English opponent in European competition.

Bukayo Saka to score anytime (2/1 with SkyBet)

Bukayo Saka has been directly involved in seven goals in five Champions League appearances at the Emirates Stadium (four goals and three assists). Indeed, this is the most combined goals and assists by an Arsenal player through his first five home matches in the competition.

Arsenal to win to nil (9/4 with SkyBet)

The last PSG player to score in the Champions League was Kylian Mbappé on April 16th (v Barcelona), with the French side attempting 71 shots without scoring in the competition since then.

David Raya made an incredible double save from a penalty as Arsenal tied with the Italian team Atalanta in their Champions League opener. Raya dove low to his right to stop Mateo Retegui’s penalty kick and then managed to get across the goal to block the striker’s header on the follow-up.

This was the standout moment in an otherwise uneventful match in Bergamo. There were few scoring opportunities, with Raya not needing to make any other saves apart from that quick sequence.

Arsenal did not manage a single shot on target between the 18th and 75th minute. Like the hosts, Arsenal’s only two shots on target came from the same play. Marco Carnesecchi deflected Bukayo Saka’s free-kick and then blocked Thomas Partey’s attempt on the rebound.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham and Fulham goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made a late mistake that helped Paris Saint-Germain secure a victory against Champions League debutants Girona.

Portuguese left-back Nuno Mendes took a low shot at Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga from a difficult angle, but the keeper’s error allowed the ball to slip through his hands.

Girona, who are making their debut in Europe’s top competition after finishing third in La Liga last season, put up a strong defensive performance and seemed poised to secure a draw against PSG until Gazzaniga’s mistake.

Although PSG had 26 shots on goal, they struggled to score against Girona’s solid defence. However, at the end of the match, Gazzaniga’s error gave PSG the win.

Arsenal host PSG at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 1st October at 8pm.

Squawka Predictor Podcast: Arsenal vs PSG in 60 seconds

In this week’s episode of the Squawka Predictor Podcast, Arsenal fan Rimedi is also backing a win for the Gunners against le Parisiens – but he’s worried about the form of PSG starlet Bradley Barcola.

“I don’t particularly want Ben White starting, only because I’ve seen his one-to-one defending slightly diminish this season and Barcola for me is one of the best left-wingers in the world right now.”

“But I still feel Arsenal have enough in the tank – I’m going to predicting Arsenal to win every game, I hope you guys know that!”
