How to watch Argentina vs Chile live
Argentina vs Chile is scheduled for 1am (UK time) on Friday 6th September and will be broadcast live in the UK on Premier Sports 1.
How both teams go into Argentina vs Chile
Argentina are threatening to go on a period of domination. They are the reigning world and South American champions and it’s hard to see them stopping. Since losing their opening game of the 2022 World Cup, Argentina have only failed to win four of their 26 games across all competitions. Three of those failures resulted in penalty shootout victories for Argentina, with just one defeat overall.
Five of the 22 wins have come in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. Scaloni’s men went perfect in their opening four games, seeing off Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru. There was the potential for Argentina to be rocked by a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay, but they bounced back to secure a historic 1-0 win over rivals Brazil at the Maracana.
After successive last 16 appearances at the World Cup in 2010 and 2014, Chile have missed the past two tournaments. And they’re at risk of missing a third World Cup. Ahead of 2018, Chile missed out on an inter-confederation play-off spot on goal difference, while four years later they were five points off.
Six games into qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, Chile have just five points. Qualification should be easier, with six South American teams now qualifying automatically and a seventh having a chance through the inter-confederation play-offs, But Chile currently sit eighth, behind seventh-placed Paraguay on goal difference. They’ve managed just one win, over Peru in their third game, but have suffered defeats against Uruguay, Venezuela and Ecuador.
Argentina host Chile at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires at 1am (UK time) on Friday 6th September.
Argentina team news
The big news for Argentina is the lack of Lionel Messi. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner picked up an injury in the 2024 Copa America final win over Colombia and has not featured for Inter Miami since.
Nicolas Tagliafico and Leonardo Balerdi have had to withdraw from the squad due to injury, with Marcos Acuna a late addition to the defence. Angel Di Maria and Franco Armani retired after the Copa America in the summer.
Chile team news
Claudio Bravo retired from football after the 2024 Copa America, leaving Gabriel Arias, Brayan Cortes and Lawrence Vigouroux to fight for the No.1 spot. There is also no Alexis Sanchez in the Chile squad, with the Udinese man still recovering from injury.
Argentina vs Chile head-to-head
After losing the 2016 Copa America final on penalties, Argentina are unbeaten in their past seven games against Chile. Four of those have been wins, including one in the Copa America group stage in the summer.
