Spain will be hoping to secure their fifth consecutive knockout round appearance at the European Championships when they take on Albania in their final group stage game.

La Roja went all the way to the semi-finals at Euro 2020, before losing to eventual champions Italy on penalties and will be looking to go one step further and reach the final this time around. Luis de la Fuente has picked up the pieces from their poor showing at the 2022 World Cup that saw them knocked out in the round of 16 to Morocco, to help them lift their first ever Nations League trophy.

Albania meanwhile, are playing in just their second European Championships after being knocked out in the group stages in 2016 when they finished third in a group that consisted of France, Switzerland and Romania.

Albania Latest Team News

Albania don’t have the luxury a squad full of world class talent like Spain do, but they shouldn’t be counted out, especially after an impressive qualifying campaign that saw them concede just four goals in eight games.

Nedim Bajrami and Jasir Asani top scored for them qualifying with three goals apiece, but it was a true team effort that got them to their second ever European Championships, with seven different players finding the net in their eight games. Armando Broja might be the name fans of English football are most familiar with the striker appearing for Southampton, Chelsea and Fulham over the past three years and his experience at the highest level could be invaluable.

Berat Djimsiti comes into the tournament on the back of a Europa League winning campaign with Atalanta and he is joined in Albania’s sturdy defence by Lazio’s Elseid Hysaj and infront of Empoli GK Etrit Berisha.

Spain Latest Team News

Spain’s biggest loss going into the tournament will be Barcelona midfielder Gavi, who continues to recover from the serious knee injury he picked up for the national side against Georgia back in November.

The do have a host of other top midfield talent to choose from however, with metronome Rodri expected to be flanked by the likes of Pedri, Fabian Ruiz and Mikel Merino. Upfront, all-time leading goalscorer at the European Championships, Alvaro Morata should lead the line once more with Nico Willliams and Ferran Torres expected to join him in attack. Dani Olmo and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal will both be pushing for a starting spot however.

Unai Simon is preferred in goal, despite fierce competition from David Raya and Alex Remiro, while at full-back, Luis de la Fuente has some difficult choices to make with Dani Carvajal, Jesus Navas, Alex Grimaldo and Marc Cucurella.

Albania vs Spain Head to Head
