Ajax vs Lazio prediction, odds, betting tips and team news
Europa League leaders Lazio lock horns with Ajax in a top-of-the-table battle in Amsterdam on Thursday, December 12th, at 8pm (UK time).
Wout Weghorst anytime goalscorer (7/4 with Sky Bet)
Wout Weghorst has eight goals in all competitions for Ajax, including five in the Eredivisie and one in the Europa League, coming against Qarabag in October. The towering former Manchester United forward is proving a reliable target man in front of goal once again this season after joining the Dutch giants this summer, having scored a brace in a 2-1 win over NEC Nijmegen this month.
Lazio to score 3+ goals (9/2 with Sky Bet)
The Serie A giants have been lethal in the Europa League this season, scoring 11 goals so far, helping them top the standings. They’ve won four of their first five matches in the competition. They brushed Dynamo Kiev aside 3-0 and thrashed Nice 4-1 before a 2-0 win over FC Twente — three of those they’ve won by two or more goals. Boulaye Dia, Valentin Castellanos and ex-Chelsea man Pedro have been central to their efforts — netting seven goals between them.

Ajax vs Lazio odds
How both teams go into Ajax vs Lazio
Ajax are continuing their topsy-turvy season in the Eredivisie after a 2-1 defeat away at AZ Alkmaar, which saw their rivals go 2-0 up before Mika Godts scored a consolation. That was their first loss since August but their inconsistency has left them third, nine points adrift of league leaders PSV. Their Europa League form has been much better. They’re sixth in the table after winning three of their opening five games – and all of them convincingly. However, they were beaten 2-0 by Real Sociedad last time out and that will give Lazio confidence.
Lazio, meanwhile, are fifth in the Serie A table but only four points off league leaders Atalanta after an exciting and competitive start to the Italian top-flight season. They come into this game following back-to-back victories over high-flying Napoli, once in the Coppa Italia and once in Serie A. They had been on a run of five straight league wins before that run was ended in a 3-1 loss to Parma at the end of last month. Top scorer Castellanos has led the way with eight goals in all competitions, while ex-Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares has provided an impressive eight assists.
Ajax team news
The Dutch outfit remain without long-term absentees Gaston Avila, Sivert Mannsverk and Amourricho van Axel Dongen, while there are doubts over Devyne Rensch, who has missed Ajax’s last two games following a leg injury
Lazio team news
Midfielder Matias Vecino is set to miss this clash after suffering a thigh muscle injury that has kept him out for the last three games. Centre-back Alessio Romagnoli is a doubt after picking up a knee issue in the 1-0 win over Napoli.
Ajax vs Lazio head-to-head
This is the first-ever competitive meeting between these sides.
