Derby vs Watford: Predictions
Following three successive defeats, Derby County will now be hoping to build on their first win of the season last time out when Phillip Cocu’s side welcome Watford to Pride Park in the Championship on Friday.
An 87th-minute free-kick from captain Wayne Rooney secured the Rams’ first points of the new campaign against Norwich just before the international break, stopping the rot and giving Cocu some much-needed momentum heading into this fixture.
The Dutchman will be preparing his side for another of the Premier League’s relegated clubs, playing host to Vladimir Ivic’s Watford, who have made a strong if not excessively convincing start to 2020/21 with two wins, a draw, and just the single defeat so far.
The Hornets suffered their first loss in the previous outing, firing a blank against Reading in a 1-0 reversal, but with aspirations to bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking, the visitors will be eyeing up maximum reward later this week.

Derby vs Watford: Team Stats
Watford are yet to play a Championship match this season in which over 2.5 goals have been scored. Despite sitting just outside the top six the Hornets have only scored two goals, with both those finishes resulting in 1-0 victories over Middlesbrough and Luton.
Derby meanwhile are in a similar goalscoring predicament, only netting two goals themselves, but unlike Watford, they have been far from convincing at the back. Watford can expect to get on the scoresheet but this has all the ingredients of another low-scoring affair.
22 November 2014 – Watford 1-2 Derby – Championship
26 April 2014 – Derby 4-2 Watford – Championship
19 October 2013 – Watford 2-3 Derby – Championship
23 February 2013 – Watford 2-1 Derby – Championship
Despite Watford gaining promotion to the Premier League in 2014/15 they were unable to beat Derby that season, losing 2-1 at Vicarage Road and drawing 2-2 away from home. You would have to go back to 2012/13 for their last victory over the Rams.
With four winless games since then, the Hornets will fancy their chances to restore some parity and inch into the play-off positions.
