Denmark were the story of Euro 2020, reaching the semi-finals despite losing Christian Eriksen early on in the tournament following his collapse. They went on to qualify for the 2022 World Cup but Denmark’s stay in Qatar was short, bowing out of the group stage with just one point.
It was a strange showing for Denmark at the World Cup as they had done so well in the Nations League, only just missing out on top spot in a group which also contained Croatia, France and Austria. Denmark beat France home and away from were beaten by Les Bleus in Qatar, while also losing to Australia and being held by Tunisia.
Finland were also at Euro 2020 and played Denmark in the group, beating them 1-0 in the gam which saw Eriksen collapse. That was Finland’s first ever appearance at a major tournament and they’ll be hoping to make it two European Championship appearances in a row.
The win over Denmark was Finland’s only victory at Euro 2020, and they suffered an indifferent 2022. Across 10 games in friendlies and the Nations League, Finland won just twice, a pair of victories over Montenegro, with three defeats and five draws.
