Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace: Predictions
Sheffield United were emphatically beat on the weekend in their visit to north London as Tottenham Hotspur hit Paul Heckingbottom’s men for four. Gareth Bale tore put the Blades to the sword at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Gareth Bale ran riot to net his first Premier League hat-trick since 2012.
Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace are still mathematically not safe from relegation, however, the Eagles need to add just two more points to their tally to secure their spot in the Premier League for next season. Although the 73-year-old manager will hope his side can secure their own fate, a defeat for Fulham against Burnley on Monday would also seal Palace a spot in next season’s Premier League if they fail to beat the Blades.
The Eagles will be hoping to put their recent bad form behind them having not won in any of their last four Premier League games. Granted, their last four games have come against Everton, Chelsea, Leicester City and Manchester City, however, Hodgson will be hoping his side can earn three huge points on Saturday against a side that has lost 27 times this campaign.
Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace: Match Stats
Christian Benteke has dramatically improved his goals return this season having just netted just six times in the Premier League over the last three seasons. Benteke has equalled his return for the last three seasons in the 26 appearances he has made for the Eagles in the top flight this campaign.
Only one side has conceded more goals than Sheffield United this season (West Brom) and no side in the league has kept fewer clean sheets than the Blades. The previous meeting between the two sides saw Palace run out 2-0 victors and with a place in the Premier League at stake for the Eagles, they will be hoping for a similar result.
2 January 2021 – Crystal Palace 2-0 Sheffield United – Premier League
1 February 2020 – Crystal Palace 0-1 Sheffield United – Premier League
18 August 2019 – Sheffield United 1-0 Crystal Palace – Premier League
19 February 2011 – Crystal Palace 1-0 Sheffield United – Championship
20 November 2010 – Sheffield United 3-2 Crystal Palace – Championship
6 March 2010 – Crystal Palace 1-0 Sheffield United – Championship
It seems almost unthinkable now but 12 months ago Sheff Utd were flying high in the Premier League, and now they have just four games remaining in the top-flight before returning to the Championship. With nothing more than pride to play for this offers the Blades a good opportunity to add another win to their name, but Hodgson will be hoping his side can confirm their Premier League status for next season.
