Blackburn Rovers have adapted to life well in the post-Tony Mowbray era, with his successor Jon Dahl Tomasson masterminding an early ascent to the Championship’s upper slopes. Coventry City, by contrast, are toiling near the foot of the table and could do with a pick-me-up to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
The Riversiders have been in decisive this campaign in their premature promotion push. Tomasson has so far overseen 11 victories, the highest tally in the division to date. The Danish tactician is also yet to experience a draw in the English second tier, giving his side’s form book a real back-and-forth feel between victory and defeat, leaning more towards the former.
Coventry meanwhile are stuck in the relegation mud during these opening months. Mark Robins failed to win a single game in Coventry’s opening seven fixtures, but they have been firmly on the recovery trail this month. After beating Middlesbrough on October 1, the Sky Blues have lost just twice in their last seven.
Still, they remain in the bottom three and need to continue that autumnal purple patch if they are to start shooting up the table.

Coventry City v Blackburn Rovers match stats
Ben Brereton Diaz has played like a man possessed this season, carrying over his formidable scoring form from 2021/22 to 2022/23. As things currently stand, only Blackpool’s Jerry Yates (nine) has scored more goals in the Championship this season than Brereton Diaz (eight).
Tomasson will fancy his side’s chance of keeping a clean sheet as Coventry haven’t been the most potent in the final third this campaign. The West Midlands club have netted the third-fewest number of goals of any side in the division this season (15). Blackburn have also conceded the joint-fifth fewest (18).
