Having suffered heartbreak in the recent Copa Americas, finishing runners-up in four of the past seven tournaments, Argentina will be looking finally win their first crown since 1993. Argentina cruised through the group stage unbeaten while conceding just two goals, one of which came in their opening 1-1 draw with Chile. Lionel Scaloni’s men bounced back to beat Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia to secure top spot in Group A, setting up a quarter-final tie with Ecuador. Argentina were made to work hard for their victory, but capitalised on a late collapse to ultimately win 3-0.
Colombia’s route to the semi-final was anything but easy and they have only won one of their five games so far after 90 minutes. That victory came in their Group B opener against Ecuador, a 1-0 win which, when added to their goalless draw against Venezuela, is the reason they made it to the knockout stages. Colombia ended the group with defeats to Peru and Brazil, leaving them third in Group B and facing Uruguay in the quarter-finals. The game finished goalless, but Colombia did get the win eventually, advancing on penalties (with no extra time played).

Argentina have scored 10 goals at Copa America 2021 so far and, to the surprise of no one, Lionel Messi leads the way in the squad with four of those. The former Barcelona forward is the top scorer at Copa America this summer and will be looking to seal the Golden Boot for the first ever time.
Two of Messi’s four goals at Copa America so far have been direct free-kicks, including one against Ecuador in the quarter-finals. That particular effort went viral on social media with a clip of Messi setting up his shot, showing his focus and precision in placing the ball exactly how he needed it. With that level of control, Messi will be looking to replicate the feat if he gets a free-kick in a good position against Colombia.

Colombia go into this game unbeaten in their past three matches against Argentina, including a 2-0 win at Copa America 2019. However, that win is their only victory in the past 10 meetings with Argentina winning five and four draws.
Meetings between these two sides are actually frequent and have thrown up a diverse range of results over recent years. In only one of their last nine meetings has Colombia tasted victory over Argentina and ironically that came in the last meeting back in 2019.
