After a 5-1 win over Club Brugge last month, Man City have put themselves in a decent position to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League – though nothing is confirmed just yet. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently second in Group A after three games with six points, beating Club Brugge and RB Leipzig either side of a defeat to PSG. Man City are only one point behind leaders PSG and two clear of Club Brugge and know a win would leave them requiring two points from their final two games to secure knockout football. However, they go into this game off the back of a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, their first loss at the Etihad since the start of May.
The defeat to Man City ended Club Brugge’s unbeaten start to the Champions League group stage and while they will not be fancied to make it to the knockout stage, the Belgian side do still have the Europa League spot in their hands. With four points from their opening three games, drawing with PSG and beating RB Leipzig, Club Brugge are currently in firm control of third place and four points clear of the Roten Bullen at the bottom of the group. Club Brugge also responded to that 5-1 thrashing to Man City by going unbeaten in their three games since, winning twice and are just two points behind Union Saint-Gilloise at the top of the Belgian league.

Riyad Mahrez has found playing time in the Premier League hard to come by at Man City this season but he has thrived on the European stage. The Algerian has played 90 minutes in each of Man City’s three group stage games so far, scoring three goals. Two of those goals came last time out against Club Brugge, making it 2-0 and then rounding off the scoring, and Mahrez will undoubtedly be looking to strike against the Belgians once again.
Man City are normally regarded as having a good defence, but that hasn’t really been the case in recent weeks. After keeping four clean sheets in their opening seven matches of the season, Man City have kept two in their past nine and have conceding in each of their last four. They are also yet to keep a clean sheet in the Champions League this season, conceding six goals.
