The expectation is for the Blues to return to winning ways by sweeping aside the Hornets – will there be a sting in the tale, as we saw at the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday? Scroll on down and take a read of our Chelsea vs Watford betting tips and predictions…
Sure, the Hornets have only won once in their past 11 games in all competitions, remaining a single point above the bottom three, but as David Moyes’ men proved on Wednesday, status means nothing, and performance everything.
Indeed, it was Chelsea’s suspect central defensive pairing of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen that allowed the hosts to regularly breach the back four, with Mikel Antonio acting chief tormentor, forcing the duo into relinquishing 10 high-profile chances in the game – one of which Tomas Souzek latched on to score, despite his first attempt controversially being ruled out by Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR).
From there on, the Blues did slip back into the game courtesy of a clumsy Issa Diop challenge that resulted in a penalty and a sublime Willian freekick. But Lampard’s own tactics would come back to bite him. With his team invested in speedy counterattacks, they were unable to stem the flow the other way, with both fullbacks Marcus Alonso and David Azpilicueta charging up the pitch and leaving acres of space in their wake.
It was a blitz that allowed the ever-present Antonio to net the leveler and then set up Andriy Yarmalenko to clinch a last-gasp winner, delivering the visitors with their first defeat in six games.
While Watford may be able to cause the Blues similar defensive dismay this Saturday making for a great online betting experience, as the Hammers did in the midweek clash, their lack of form, especially away from home, won’t be doing them any favours.
Indeed, Nigel Pearson’s men were deservedly beaten by Southampton last weekend, featuring a Danny Ings masterclass – the Englishman’s 18th goal of the season – in a game where they were unable to register a single shot on goal.
Through Jan Bednarek’s own goal, they did eventually get onto the scoresheet. Yet their hopes of a potential resurgence, just like their chances of escaping the drop, were shortlived as three minutes later, a sumptuous James Ward-Prowse free-kick settled the game.
Combine the Hornet’s doomed form with Chelsea’s desire to bounce back from a sobering defeat and you have all the ingredients for another away defeat for Pearson and his players.

Chelsea vs Watford Predictions
Victories have been few and far between for the Hornets, especially on the road. Unfortunately for the visitors, our Chelsea vs Watford betting tips, odds, and predictions are forecasting another game where the three points won’t be heading to Hertfordshire.
You only have to take a look at Watford’s attacking display against the Saints to realise that not only are they defensively suspect, but also lack the finesse and clinical edge on the counter. Sure, they had a decent spell in the first 10 minutes of the game against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men last week, but Troy Deeney’s shot went over the bar, and the final ball was never sharp enough in all the chances that followed.
The only way they were going to score was via a huge helping hand, which Bednarek did provide.
Yet, given the defensive performance that this weekend’s opponents, Chelsea, put in last Wednesday – their 10th defeat of the 2019/20 campaign – you can bet your PS4 on the fact that Lampard won’t be expecting a repeat display.
Expect a more compact, sharper defensive formation, with fullbacks Alonso and Azpilicueta better primed for tracking the likes of Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu. Meanwhile, on the other end of the pitch, the boss will want a more succinct counterattacking charge, with the in-form Christian Pulisic and ever-present Ross Barkley working in tandem.
Indeed, the former has racked up the goals this season (7 in 14 games) as the man orchestrating all of Chelsea’s fast breaks, while the latter has been in the thick of the FA Cup action and will be looking to transfer his skills and abilities to this Saturday’s contest with Watford.
So, case in point, our Chelsea vs Watford predictions, odds, and betting tips are expecting a stronger, more disciplined show from the Blues, who will look to clinch victory and better secure that oh-so-popular Champions League spot.
A barrage of shots targeted at the Villa goal – expect more of the same this Saturday
Squawka Bet Tip: Chelsea’s Ross Barkley has scored three of his four goals in all competitions in the FA Cup. Can he replicate that form in the league?
All eyes have been on prolific Pulisic who’s netted twice in his last four games, and if not the American, then Willian – the free-kick specialist with eight goals notched under his belt this season.
Yet a man who is making a quieter rise to fame, and indeed form, under Lampard, is Barkley.
Unlike his attacking contingents, the Englishman has used the FA Cup, and not the league, to build on his performances, bagging three of his four goals this season in the competition.
But though Barkley’s goalscoring form may not be great in domestic play, evidence suggests that his attacking capabilities are strengthening. Not only has he notched up more attempted take-ons (34) than his teammates, but also a greater number of final third entries – 41 – than Pulisic and Willian, as the season has progressed.
With the midfielder now a regular in Lampard’s starting XI, he’ll want to showcase his prowess in the centre of the park, and what better opportunity than against this weekend’s susceptible Watford defence?
